25X25 DIRECTORS SHOWCASE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Director Carl Erik Rinsch asked JAMM to collaborate on a short film that would be part of “Saatchi & Saatchi 25×25: An Experiment in Film,” which features 25 minute-long videos strung together by 25 directors who made their mark over the years at Cannes’ annual Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase. The 25×25 directors include Rinsch, Noam Murro, Ringan Ledwidge, Daniel Kleinman, Jonathan Glazer, Michel Gondry, Traktor, Dougal Wilson, Fredrik Bond, and Jake Scott.

Rinsch’s film is a bizarre pas de deux in which a naked man and woman who are fused together break apart and separate, mimicking the act of birth. Rinsch filmed two dancers and asked JAMM to make them appear to be born from one elemental form. JAMM initially spent a couple of days working a full 2d approach to present to Carl before moving forward, it was a technique that relied solely on painting up textures and using time warped interpolation to build the in between frames to give the correct feel of a stretching membrane. Rinsch then worked with JAMM to develop the nuance and detail. “This was a rewarding project to be involved in, we had a lot of creative involvement in the shaping of the final piece, from edit to grade as well as the overall look and feel of the skin and body mutilations.”, – Jake Montgomery.
